Last weekend the Labour Party has announced the appointment of a former MP to conduct a “strategic review” of mental health ahead of the next General Election.
Luciana Berger, also a former health minister with experience in campaigning on mental health, will undertake this work and I wondered at first whether this could end up something like the Crisis Care Concordat (2014) or the Five Year Forward View (2016)?
We know those aspirations contained within the Five Year Forward View are as far away as they ever were from being delivered and the “five-year” period ended in 2021. I wish those embarking on this work good fortune with it and obviously, if it relates to what a new Government might do in the event they win an Election, it may be they can then deliver on their own plan once they control the relevant levers to deliver on it.
Anyway … I then wondered whether it might be possible to save some time, because we’ve had a few reports and strategic reviews already. A bit of cutting and pasting may make this a faster process in case this election ‘snaps’.
You’re welcome.
