The Restraint Document

I went looking recently for the 2017 national memorandum of understanding from the College of Policing and others on the Police Use of Restraint in Mental Health and Learning Disablity Settings. This document resulted from the tragic deaths in London of Seni Lewis (2010) and in Birmingham of Kingsley Burrell (2011).

At some point, the College of Policing updated its website and the previous link to this document was corrupted or lost so the document vanished.  My having now sourced a copy as PDF, I’ve created this short post merely as a host to the document so it’s accessible to those who might want it.  My original post covers the background to the document and a summary of what it intends to achieve.

As far as I am aware, it’s still the latest position of the signatory organisations on these topics.

I try to keep this blog up to date, but inevitably over time, amendments to the law as well as court rulings and other findings from inquests and complaints processes mean it is difficult to ensure all the articles and pages remain current.  Please ensure you check all legal issues in particular and take appropriate professional advice where necessary.
